Climbing Plants are a useful addition to any garden or patio. They can be used to screen unsightly walls or fences, or to act as a background to emphasize a feature plant. Grown up an obelisk in a border or container they can add height and a focal point, whereas grown over a pergola they can create a shady area to sit.
Some climbing plants are self supporting and will 'cling' to walls readily, whilst others need the support of trellis, mesh, obelisks or arches. There are are number of shrubs, for example Pyracantha, which although not climbing, prefer the shelter of a wall and can create a similar effect to a climbing plant.
